Grindfest is an annual gathering of body-hackers/biohackers/grinders. It is a time to relax among like-minded folks while simultaneously challenging each other with new ideas and hardware.
One experiment in the lab was an platelet-rich plasma therapy for an injured shoulder. Blood was drawn and separated in a centrifuge to isolate the desired platelets and applied at the troublesome shoulder. This is a documented therapy but not usually seen outside a traditional medical facility.
One project that was not even on the table at the beginning of Grindfest was an implantable wireless server. The idea was to strip unnecessary components from an existing device, solder a minimal storage device and wireless charger, then coat it in a bioinert coating. The whole process took place at Grindfest starting with someone say, "Hey could we...?" and ending with "It is implanted." It was a feat bordering on miraculous. Well done, everyone, and thank you for letting me snap some photos.
Many other exciting things happened, but these were the most newsworthy items and highlight how our bodies belong to us, and the freedom to augment should be exercised.
