2024-07-12 (F) Weekly Summary

I designed a new shell for the spinner. This one will be printed in two halves without supports, and I will bolt them together, with the spinner secured inside between a couple of bolts.
Shell for cylindrical spinner

When I printed the REV13 shell, I was happy with how well it fit together, but it needed to be taller to accommodate the spinner and axle. I would also have needed very long bolts for the side.
REV13 shell printed

I deepened the shell to fit the spinner and axle. I also changed the long tubes on the outside to short "ears" and coupled the sides with nylon standoffs and machine screws. The design looked good, but cutting the standoffs to length took a lot of work.
REV14 shell with standoff sides

I moved the "ears" from the top and bottom to the center, where I could link them with short bolts and nuts. The bolts were too short for these parameters, but I will change that next time.
Central fastening used shorter screws

I added feet to the bottom so I could stand the device on a table and have it sit level. I also included holes at the top and bottom to make it easier to see the spinner inside.
Advancing the design

I printed the latest shell base with the feet. I also printed the latest spinner, which I neglected for a bit because it was only a minor change last time. The top did not change because the only alteration was the addition of holes.
