2024-07-19 (F) Weekly Summary

I sketched out the next spinner iteration, using brass springs to keep it in place but letting it wobble. Brass should be suitable as a long-term spring, which I cannot say about a rubber band.
New spinner concept

I drafted the new spinner in three parts. The magnet holder will print in two parts, and the axle holder is separate. Bolts in the spinner will hold thin brass wires crisscrossing the center, which fit into the axle holder grooves.

The print came out nicely, but the spinner became squished when I added the magnets. My magnet measurements must have been too tight on the size, so they deformed the shape. Revision needed.
Distorted spinner

I updated the spinner with magnet sockets that fit better, so I did not get as much distortion. The other change was four spots for coupling nuts to add eight bolts from the top and bottom.

I used thin brass rods as springs between the spinner rim and axle holder. I formed a couple of oblong loops and soldered the ends together under the bolts. The wire did not fit into the axle holder in the center.

I updated the spinner and axle holder so the brass springs came from the center instead of the top. This way, I do not have to conserve space for a coupling nut, which may help with miniaturization.
