2025-01-05 (Su) UVOvenLampUpgrade COMPLETED

My resin prints needed a UV curing chamber. I previously used a paper bag lined with a reflective layer for insulation. I crouched to reach inside the bag and set my prints on a rotating platform, which made for an inconvenient operation. I did not even have the bag at my new apartment, so I was openly curing prints on a floor lamp with integrated shelves.

I decided to make the shelf a UV "oven" with one of the insulated bags, but nothing permanent. This technique should work with any structure that averages 12" (30cm) on a side, but it would be easy to use similar materials and get the same result if someone wanted to do this with a bookshelf or a PVC frame.
Old setup

The reflective material came from an Amazon Prime Fresh delivery insulated bag. I liked the material because it was reused and stiff enough to hold its shape. I cut off the narrow sides to make a long ribbon and added a couple of small slits in the paper, which will be important when I mount it.

I made some long elastic bands by tying rubber bands to one end of a string and a paper clip to the other. The string was shorter than the lamp's circumference, so the rubber bands and paper clips would join up with some tension to hold everything in place. The string passed through the slits I mentioned to form a door.
Stretchy string to hold the paper in place

I tapped the UV light power from the lightbulb socket, so it turns on my UV light whenever I activate the lamp. The new walls keep more than 99% of the UV light inside so it is difficult to tell when it is active, but I know that if the floor lamp is one, my oven is curing.
