1 1/4" skate hardware (#10-32 1 1/4") was selected to mount the wooden dowel to the PVC. Two bolts were inserted into the PVC but this would interfere with the lens placement. The parts were removed and the lens was signaled along with the retaining ring. The outer bolt and nuts were installed and tightened. The wooden dowel does not seem prone to movement from light hand pressure.
