2022-02-28 (M) RemoteFinishLine One breakout board soldered up

I gathered new parts for one prototype board. I soldered three rows of header sockets at the middle and bottom, but I installed a right-angle version at the top so I could plug in an LCD. I added a pushbutton with a pullup resistor and connected them to the bottom row to attach an arcade button later. I used bare wires to connect the LCD, but a few had to overlap, and I kept the insulation on those. In the last version, I provided rows of power terminals, but in this one, I only ran power to sockets designated for my connected devices. 2014-06-17 (Tu) Sous Vide Oven

I found a huge shortcut to take with this project which cuts out all the work of programming and most of the assembly and building work. I struggled with the idea of just plowing ahead with the hard way but couldn’t bring myself to take the hard path when the easy path is the logical one. This project had two purposes. The first purpose was to learn about temperature control by forcing myself to think about implementing it and I’ve already done that. The second purpose was to get an awesome little sous vide oven. Enough background. ---------- Off-the-shelf temperature controllers had not been considered for this project because they were assumed to all be of industrial quality and prohibitively expensive. Contrary to that assumption a light-duty temperature controller with display, buttons, and relay comes to less than fifteen dollars after shipping charges. 2014-07-21 (M) Conductive Paint Experiment

Commercially available conductive paint was tested by stirring and painting lines in the same manner as the other samples. The commercially available conductive paint was much more liquid so it produced thinner traces. All traces were dried for at least five hours in the order to test their resistance as it would be in a finished project. Each substance was measured again with fixed-width probes. Close-up pictures were taken of each sample using a macro lens. The lens has a very shallow depth of field which is not flat so the samples are not entirely visible. Acrylic paint with graphite powder is the most conductive sample in this experiment when painted in a line like a circuit trace.
