A scene was written where Dawson and Heather talked about getting ready for the other people to arrive after their trip from North Carolina. More importantly Dawson revealed that his family had a strong will which bordered on supernatural but it came from their uncharged father. The indomitable will of the Ide family was a character trait decided upon before the story started. An indomitable will was desirable for Dawson but was extended to the whole family except the mother because she was not an Ide by birth.
