Due to some printer software flubs the first model didn't print well at all. Where there was supposed to be a hollow tunnel an abstract conglomeration of vectors and planes was printed. The sides, which should have been smooth, were pocked with fractal caves. Up close the software produced a pretty mess but was entirely unusable.

Errors in model

Changes were made to the model and it was reprinted without any problems. The base which had been printed earlier was drilled by hand to make room for the post but it wasn't drilled perpendicular to the base so it was crooked. To correct this the aluminum post was heated with a handheld lighter so the base melted slightly and the post could be held in a vertical position until the plastic solidified. This took two tries but the result worked.

Straightened base

To do:
  • Make handheld haptic compass
  • Make compass work from pocket or necklace
  • Miniaturize
