Jason’s story, told through Dawson, continued. The monks took Jason to a secluded part of the mountain and the older monk proved he can use the artifact well by moving large stones and placing them back delicately. While using it the monk’s feet and hands became exaggerated and comically large. When the younger monk tried a similar demonstration he fumbled and became frustrated. In his frustration the exaggerated hands and feet looked like construction equipment instead of human limbs.

Jason hid his disappointment at not getting to try the artifact. He showed the monks The Flying Machine and allowed the younger monk to take a ride after explaining the controls since he assumed the introduction would still be in English only. During this ride, while the older monk and Jason were left behind, Jason gets to try the artifact and is highly adept.

The aptitude with the artifact, which the monk told him was called Breathing Weapon, was due to Jason’s, Number’s, extraordinary brain. He has an ability to perfectly picture things in his mind which wasn’t covered in this book but has been a factor in his character the whole time.

When the young monk returns in They Flying Machine the old monk decides that the Breathing Weapon belonged with Jason and the monks should look after The Flying Machine. Jason eventually agrees.

Dawson finished the story and called Jason to apologize for earlier. Jason told him that he would be back the next day since he figured out how to fly with the Breathing Weapon and hinted that traveling over water would be simple and fast.
