The course of Charged: DesertIrish so far has been to create as much new material as possible. This is probably a good course of action and I have an idea of where to end the book but it’s more than a couple chapters away and the story is currently at 170 000 words. This number should fall with editing. And that’s what I’m starting, at least as an experiment. In the first part the story shows Dawson and his family four years ago and they primarily deal with issues surrounding their family. I have been told that this is a good intro the Charged universe so I am going to start revising that beginning. Nothing is changing, unless it needs to for continuity.
Since writing the first words of the story I’ve gained experience and that should be applied to the beginning of the story. After a day of simple revisions I can see how much I’ve improved. I am looking forward to reading my own story from the beginning. In my head the characters have evolved considerably and I want to be sure continuity between their first appearances and their current state is maintained.
Enough background
----------
Editing on part one started. Part one will be four years before the bulk of the story which introduces the Ide family and describes the world. This could be considered a stand-alone story but it primarily serves to introduce the important characters for the rest of the story.
For this revision the story is being read and grammatical errors are being corrected and word choice changed to match the rest of the novel. The next revision will involve reading the story out loud, possibly with a microphone, which is an effective way to find clunky wording. This technique is not used when writing journals.
To do:
Today’s word count: 0 - 0 = 0 words
Total word count: 27 240 + 60 228 + 83 897 = 171 365 words
The rest of the posts for this project have been arranged by date.
