I am an engineer 24 hours a day and I am privy to some of the classic pitfalls of being an engineer. I am solemn to the point of being unreadable. That unreadability doesn’t translate to being a good poker player. I have some obsessive compulsive tendencies but not on the scale of being a disorder. My brain is firmly located in the realm of logic and emotion still baffles me regularly. But my stoic non-reactions are what I wanted to talk about for a moment. It is off-putting. I’m not animated, I don’t usually talk with my hands, my face doesn’t show a lot of emotion and even listening to the early chapters of the audio book it is possible to hear the limited emoting I do. Since starting I have made conscious efforts to emote more and I think I have been seeing results. This is exciting news to me because another of my projects has helped me grow in my regular life.
The story goes that I was at my girlfriend’s parents, and her dad is animated in all the ways I am not. He likes me because my girlfriend talks me up but it’s hard to communicate on his level because it is way out of what I have done my whole life. Yesterday he was quite excited because he had just purchased a new home and was practically jumping around the family. This is usually where I shut down and offer nothing more than a closed-mouth smile. Instead, I found myself congratulating him and emoting that I was happy that he was happy. There was inflection in my words and when I heard myself talking I recognized the things I had done while recording.
Best of all, I wasn’t fake about anything. I’m almost always happy when people around me have something to be happy about but I usually just look stoic or even disinterested. This was just another way for me to break out and try my hand at expressing a little emotion in the safety of my own apartment.

Chapter 21 was recorded without difficulty. Instead of a journal post with practical writing an anecdotal story was written to go before the journal entry.
To do:
Today’s word count: 0 - 0 = 0 words
Total word count: 27 240 + 60 228 + 83 897 = 171 365 words
