I subscribe to a magnet retailer blog, and while they are a commercial entity, they do an educational blog that illustrates magnet concepts and functions. In this entry, they showed how magnets act on both sides of sound reproduction. A coil of wire around a suspended magnet can collect sound, while the same arrangement on the other end of a cable will reproduce sound, which is a speaker.
