Chapter two covered the launch of the ship. Things got a little tense since only Jerry traveled in space before. His history doesn't get described, but his familiarity with the procedure and ease at launching without wearing a suit should hint that his space-solder veteran claim was legitimate. The kids are OK, but Ness becomes violently ill and rushes to the bathroom when they're back under gravity. They were supposed to observe fasting before launch, so Jerry explores the kitchen with the kids, and we see the divide between rich and poor as we discover that Ness has nutrient slurries while the kids have meal packages.
