I eliminated the button to decrease the volume on the Media Control page since I controlled volume with a single key and replaced the mute button while I was at it. I added previous and next functions to control my audio playback.
My battery life was still awful, and I looked at how to disable the Bluetooth radio. The command to stop it was easy to find and use, but I couldn't restart it without resetting it. I tried a few different methods, but once it was off, it stayed off. I needed to turn the keyboard off because it interfered with my typing since it made the on-screen keyboard disappear. The compromise I found was to prevent the keyboard from connecting on startup, and now it waits for a keypress. I still used the settings to turn off the radio, but it requires a restart, so I guess it's more of a lock.
The other battery hog was the screen. I kept it from drawing power by adding a timer that counted how long it had been since a keypress, like a computer screensaver. When it timed out, the screen went blank. I still only get 90 minutes from a charge, and the display only reawakens from the encoder wheel, so I still have a few things to debug.
