I think my MIDI ↔ USB adapter is the problem and won't accept a standard timing signal. Perhaps it will stop failing if I send notes as well. I tested at full speed over 300bpm with a complete 24 commands per beat, and the serial line didn't overload. I shouldn't ever need to go that fast, but I set it as the timer panel's maximum. I had two unused buttons, so I programmed them to ramp the tempo up or down. If the current rate is below 60bpm, it can accelerate to that speed. The down button will lower the rate to 1bpm. When I press another button, it will stop the ramping and adjust as necessary. Unless I find that I need another modification, this panel is complete and I will start work on the drum machine.
