I started to cut my drum machine faceplate the same way I made the timer panel, where I scored deeper and deeper with a razor knife and dug it out in layers. I realized this would take too long, so I went to my garage, where I kept my Dremel and made a dusty mess. The knife technique worked fine when I only needed three holes, but it would be silly to avoid power tools for this size panel. I started the holes with a rotary blade, then cleaned them up with a spiral saw. A rotary tool was much less work, and I will probably do this even with a couple of holes.
