2024-08-20 (Tu) GrinderCompassMKIII REV26 assembled and semi-fuctional

I made an axle by cutting a piece of M2.5 brass threaded rod with a bolt cutter. It was approximately 16.5 millimeters long, slightly longer than necessary for the spinner hardware. I added divots to the ends by mounting the rod segment into a drill and spinning it while cutting the concavity with a rounded bit in a rotary tool.

When I assembled the compass, I was relieved by how quickly the pieces fit together, but I was disappointed by how much the spinner rattled. If the pieces were not rattling, they would not spin freely. The problem may have been the axle, which I shortened more than intended, and the nuts at the end were rubbing.
