I printed one copy of every spring variation. The tightest coils were still fused in the printing process, and some of the finger details faded, but some of the experiments were successful.
I took a couple of the most workable springs and installed them in a case with axle pins and a magnet spinner. As I feared, the springs did not stop the axle pins from pointing off the sides, so the spinner would not sit level. I took an animation to demonstrate the off-kilter rotation, but the software distorted portions, making the case look like it changed shape, which it did not.
