2024-10-08 (Tu) GrinderCompassMKIII Floating spinner

I printed four buoys larger than the old version to find one that would float. I even experimented with wide versions in case I needed significantly more floatation. By happy coincidence, the first one I tried was close to neutrally buoyant. It was the tallest one that could fit into a test tube. I dried it after the test and sealed a magnet inside with printer resin. The bottom still needed to be a smooth hemisphere, but I plan to revise that later.

I drew colored lines in the vents to visualize the rotation. When I sealed the buoy inside a test tube, I crushed the spinner because the pressure increased significantly as I pushed a plug into the water column. Despite my fumble, I got excellent rotation from the spinner as I moved a magnet nearby. I detected some friction when the test tube was not level, so I may switch to a viscous lubricant soon.
