I drew a schematic with all the hardware I found inside the guitar controller and the stuff I plan to add. I decided to use IO expanders for the digital IO to keep the Arduino's pins free for more specialized functions like addressable LEDs and serial lines that talk to the screen and IO expanders. The neck will be retrofitted with an IO expander so I can use the pins to add power and put the LEDs there. The drawing showed the lights in the guitar body, but I reconsidered after I drew it.
